Although the exterior and lobby of the Plaza Hotel in
New York are seen briefly near the opening of the film, the scene in which
'Cary Grant' is kidnapped from the famous Oak Bar was actually
shot on a sound stage in Hollywood. Presumably this was done because the film required more space in
which to maneuver the VistaVision camera. In reality both the
lobby corridor outside the Oak Bar and the doorway leading into
the bar itself are much narrower than what was built for the film.
The production schedule reveals that this sequence was the first
part of the film to be shot when the production resumed in Hollywood after all of the location filming was completed. (taken from

left to travel north on Corcoran Road. When you reach
Garces Highway, turn right (east). The
Kern National Wildlife Refuge will be on your
left.

From Highway 99, take the Garces Highway(155) exit West from Delano.
Stay on Garces Highway and you will reach the site just before the road ends at Corcoran Road.

Although some
scenes were shot at this location, the final chase scene was not
shot on Mt. Rushmore; Alfred Hitchcock couldn't gain permission to shoot an attempted
murder on a national monument. The scene was shot in the studio on
a replica of Mt.Rushmore. Everything is shot carefully, so as to avoid associating the

Rapid City Airport: 35 miles to the memorial from Rapid City Regional Airport.
Car: Visitors traveling on I-90 should exit at Rapid City and follow Highway 16 southwest to Keystone and then Highway 244
to Mount Rushmore. Visitors coming from the south should follow Highway 385 north
to Highway 244, which is the road leading to the memorial.
